LB Topples UCI in Four Hasalikova Nets 17 Kills

LONG BEACH, CA -- Thanks to a season-high 15 kills from Robin Miramontes, the Long Beach State women's volleyball defeated UC Irvine, 3-1, from the Walter Pyramid on Thursday night. Game scores were 30-16, 25-30, 30-19, 30-19.
Long Beach State improved to 12-4, 3-1 Big West, while UC Irvine fell to 4-12, 0-3 Big West.
Mischa Hasalikova recorded 17 kills, and Alexis Crimes had 14 kills to highlight the top 49er scoring leaders. Iris Murray registered a match-best 18 digs as well. LB hit .301 for the match. Lauren Kellerman had 17 kills for UCI in the losing effort.
The 49er offense sizzled in the first set en route to a 30-16 victory. LBSU unlocked a 4-4 tie with an 11-1 run to take a commanding 15-5 lead. Long Beach State pushed its lead to 13, 23-10, after a Miramontes kill, and closed out the Anteaters on a kill by Crimes. The 49ers connected for a .545 attack percentage (19-1-33) and out-blocked UCI, 3-0.
UC Irvine rallied to square the match at 1-1 after a 30-25 game two victory. Both teams played a tight game, before a 7-2 Anteater run lifted Irvine to a 17-12 advantage. Long Beach State trimmed the deficit to 21-18 after another Miramontes kill, but could not get any closer, as a Kristin Kelley kill ended the stanza.
Long Beach State reclaimed the momentum of the match after a 30-19 game three victory. The 49ers held a slim 8-7 lead, before widening the gap to six (18-12) after a UCI attack error. The Anteaters managed to cut the deficit to 22-18, but three straight points from Long Beach put the set out of reach for UCI.
LBSU took control of game four early, and topped off the Anteaters for the 30-19 victory.
The 49ers return to action next Friday when they host UC Davis at 7 pm. |
