Crimes Gets 1,000; 49ers Sweep CSUN LBSU Takes on UCI on Thursday

LONG BEACH, CA -- Alexis Crimes became the 13th player in program history to record 1,000 or more kills, as the Long Beach State women's volleyball team toppled CS Northridge, 3-0 from the Walter Pyramid on Tuesday night. Game scores were 30-24, 31-29, 30-24.
Long Beach State improved to 11-4, 2-1 Big West, while CSUN fell to 9-5, 3-1 Big West, snapping the Matador win streak at six.
Crimes finished the contest with 14 kills, and now has 1,002 for her career. The junior also posted four blocks. Naomi Washington chipped in with 12 kills as well. Nicole Vargas posted her ninth double-double with 41 assists and 13 digs. Iris Murray led everyone with 19 digs.
Harmony Burdine recorded 11 kills to lead CS Northridge in the losing effort. CSUN hit just .145 for the match.
Long Beach State managed to pull away late in game one and unlocked a 23-23 tie with a 7-1 run to capture the set, 30-24. Northridge committed three service errors and seven attack errors to aid the 49ers as well. Crimes netted five kills in the stanza, while as a team, LBSU registered 30 digs. The 49ers fought off three game points and went on a 5-0 run to complete a come from behind 31-29 game two victory. The Matadors led by as many as five points (25-20) after a 49er attack error, before the Long Beach State rally. Robin Miramontes sparked the rally with a kill to pull within two, 29-27, followed by a Quincy Verdin kill and a Matador attack error to tie the game at 29-29. Crimes netted four more kills in the stanza to raise her match total to nine.
It was all Long Beach State in the third stanza, as the 49ers cruised to a 30-24 victory.
