49ers Tied For 4th At Northwest Classic

CORVALLIS, OR-- The Long Beach State men's golf team is tied for fourth place after two rounds of the Northwest Collegiate Classic, which is being held at Trysting Tree Golf Course in Corvallis, OR. The 49ers shot a 290 in Monday's opening round and a 299 in the second for a score of 589. The 49ers are tied for fourth place with UC Irvine and Saint Mary's. The overall team leader is the University of Oregon who shot a 576 (288-288). Oreogn State and San Francisco are tied for second at 587.

Leading the way for the 49ers is senior Ryan Wood. Wood shot a one-under 143 (71-72) and he is tied for fourth place overall. Freshman Michael Drake is tied for 17th at 147 (71-76) and Kris Assawapimonporn is tied for 25th at 149 (73-76). The overall individual leader is Washington's Zach Bixler who shot a five-under 139 (69-70).

"We played really well in the morning, and then some of the new guys got a little tired in the afternoon," said 49er Head Coach Bob Livingstone. "I was pleased with how we held it together in the second round. It got windy and the greens were extremely quick. With the exception of Oregon, there are 5 teams within 2 shots of each other so tomorrow should be really interesting. Ryan Wood really plays this course well. He had it four-under in the morning before stumbling a bit and then was a few over in the afternoon before eagling #5 to get back to even par. I expect him to contend tomorrow."

The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday.
