Hoey Ties For 21st Place

SAMMAMISH, WA-- The 49er women's golf team finished in 14th place at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at the Sahalee Country Club. The 49ers shot a 322 in Wednesday's third and final round, finishing with a three-day score of 956. Stanford won the team title with an 896 while New Mexico came in second at 902.

The 49ers Kay Hoey finished tied for 21st place overall with a 15-over 231 (76-77-78). Katy Barrett tied for 47th at 240 (82-79-79) and Josefine Lindbergh tied for 51st place with a 242 (75-82-85). The overall individual winner was Stanford's Mari Chun who shot a one-under 215 (68-72-75). Jodi Ewart of New Mexico came in second at 217.

"I'm disappointed with the results," said Head Coach Sue Ewart. "We saw some very unusal shots from the team today. What was strange, was with the perfect weather and the great course conditions today, all the scores were really high. All coaches today were scratching their heads wondering what happened. We will head home and regroup and get ready for our next tournament in Hawaii."

Only nine of the 77 total golfers shot even par or better in Wednesday's third round. The top team score was Stanford's 296, and 13 of the 15 squads shot over 300 today. Chun, who was the leader throughout the tournament, shot a 75 today, but still managed to win the individual title by two strokes.

The 49ers are next in action October 24-25 at the Kent Youel Invitational at the Kapolei Golf Course in Honolulu.
