49ers Land Top Junior College Player LONG BEACH, CA-- After producing its best season in school history, the Long Beach State women's soccer program inked its first high impact player for the fall, when 2004 National Junior College Player of the Year Kristin Childers (Bellflower, CA/Poly HS/LBCC) enrolled in school for the spring of 2006. "I'm excited we were able to keep her in Long Beach so that our fans can continue to enjoy her talents," said Head Coach Maurcio Ingrassia, whose team went 12-5-3 last season, and who coached Childers in his final year at LBCC in 2003. "Kristin brings a different dimension to our attack, mainly speed and has a strong scoring mentality" Childers, who finished up her associate's degree in the fall at Long Beach City College, was a two-time first team All-American and two-time South Coast Conference Player of the Year. In 2004 she was named the Junior College National Player of the Year after leading the Vikings back to the State Final Four, finishing with 17 goals and 42 points. In her two year career, she scored 54 goals, second all-time at LBCC, and tallied 127 points. In 2003, she led the Vikings to the No. 1 national ranking and a state title, under Ingrassia. LBCC went a combined 44-0-1 in her two seasons. Childers finished up her prep career at Poly High, where she was a second team All-CIF selection and earned first team All-Moore League honors. That season she also was named to the Long Beach Press-Telegram's Dream Team. |
