Another Program First: National POW NEW YORK, NY-- What is next for the up and coming Long Beach State women's soccer program? The road ahead could lead to a conference championship, an NCAA berth, a place in the top-25, or even an All-American, all program firsts, for a team which has started upwards of eight freshmen this season. The latest honor goes to one of those young gunners, Kim Silos (Ontario), who became the program's first nationally recoginized player, as she was named to Soccerbuzz.com and Soccer America's National Teams of the Week following two game-winning goals in overtime last week. This following another first, a player in the national statistics, which ranked goalie Liz Ramos amongst the nation's elite goalies with an 0.43 goals against average. The 49ers began the week with a program-best 7-1-1 start and enter conference play on Friday at 7-2-2 following Tuesday's loss at USC. On Monday night the franchise received its first regional ranking in program history, 13th, in a West Region which features 11 nationally recognized programs. The pre-season began with a nationally recognized recruiting class, 15th, featuring four top-100 recruits, yet again, another newborn idea for the eight-year old program. Just two wins away from a Big West era record for victories, The Beach began conference play at Pacific on Friday and at CS Northridge on Sunday, in a conference which features six teams with better than .500 records. |
