Passion for the Game Evident for Logeman by Kim Oswell, Daily 49er
September 14, 2006 The men's golf team at Long Beach State has a positive outlook on the upcoming season, partially due to team member James Logeman.
Logeman is a senior and ready to graduate this May with a degree in criminal justice. He was born and raised in Torrance and transferred to Oak Park High School in Thousand Oaks after his freshman year.
Logeman came to Long Beach State on a scholarship to play for the golf team right out of high school.
Coming from a small family, Logeman had the passion of golf instilled in him thanks to his grandparents. He started playing when he was 8 years old and it has been a part of him ever since.
"Golf has just come natural to me," Logeman said. "I wasn't big enough or good enough to play football or any other sport."
Since his career began at an early age, he has many awards and achievements under his belt, including being an Academic All-Star every semester he has attended LBSU.
The Academic All-Star Award is for athletes who have a GPA higher than 3.0. Logeman was also"named the Cleveland Golf All-American, which is awarded to athletes who have a high GPA, compete in a certain number of tournaments, and have a collectively high golf score.
There are only 60-70 athletes in the nation who receive this award annually, so it is quite an honor for Logeman and LBSU.
Along with the Academic All-Star achievement, Logeman has also been on the Dean's List and the President's List a few times.
When he isn't teeing off on the golf course, Logeman can be found watching sports, reading or going to movies.
"I am pretty much a sport addict, but especially love basketball, particularly the Dallas Mavericks," Logeman said.
After graduation, Logeman wants to continue his golf career, but as a competitive amateur. The men's golf team kicked off their season Sept. 10 at the Air Force Falcon Invitational in Colorado where they tied for third place.
"We've got two good recruits that came in and we didn't lose anyone from last year," Logeman said. "We should be in a position to be pretty good and compete well." Logeman is modest in saying he is a scratch golfer and for the non sports fans, that is good. |
