Longoria Named Cape Cod MVP HYANNIS, MA-- Long Beach State infielder Evan Longoria (Downey), after leading the Cape Cod League in homers (8) and RBIs (35) was named the Paul Sorenti Most Valuable Player. Dirtbag and Chatham A's teammate Jared Hughes (Laguna Beach), who led the Cape with a 7-0 record, was also named a post-season all-star. Longoria, who played shortstop and third base for Long Beach State in 2004 as a sophomore, was not only named a starting all-star in July at second base, but also earned the honor in the post-season. Chattham fell just short of the championship game, falling in three games in the semifinals. Longoria finished the season batting .299. Hughes started for the East squad at the All-Star game as well, and produced a 1.62 ERA with 54 strikeouts during the summer. |
