49ers' Second Half Propels Them to 2-1 Win LONG BEACH, CA-- Freshman Hayley Bolt (Lakewood/Los Alamitos HS) took a pass from fellow newcomer Kim Silos (Ontario) in the 74th minute and scored what would be the game-winner as Long Beach State women's soccer won its scrimmage with Azusa Pacific 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Bolt now has two goals and an assist during the pre-season, after scoring a goal and an assist in the Black and Gold scrimmage last week. The 49ers had to come back from a 1-0 deficit at halftime, as Elizabeth Romo's (Los Angeles) point-blank shot from freshman Sahar Haghdan (Palmdale) tied the game at 54:49. Both goals were within 10 yards of the net. "I'm glad we were down at half, it was good to have to comeback," said second-year Head Coach Mauricio Ingrassia. "I got to see a lot of the players, and I got to use a few different lineups, so it was a purposeful scrimmage." The Beach outshot APU 21-to-5, not allowing a shot until 29:50 when Shannon Coe scored off a free kick from Julie Ditta to gave Azusa Pacific an early 1-0 lead. LBSU unloaded in the second half, firing off 11 shots, resulting in six of eight corner kicks. Jill Colfer made seven saves in net for APU. A key 20 minute stretch in the second half showed how much improved the team is this season, after Romo's goal in the 55th minute, Silos served a ball in the 62nd minute to Bolt, who mised a header, followed by another missed Bolt header and Haghdan shot in the 68th minute. With the scored tied, a Silos steal and miss to the right, further put pressure on the APU defense, before the 49ers finally broke through at 73:46. The 49ers open the season at No. 3-ranked UCLA on Friday at 7 p.m., before returning home to host San Jose State on August 30 at 5 p.m. NOTES: The 49ers have raised $20,000 this pre-season, after its very successful Golden Goal Fundraiser on Friday night, which raised $13,000.
