Dirtbag Duo Named Cape Cod All-Star Starters Longoria and Hughes Named All-Stars During Summer League
July 27, 2005 HYANNIS, MA-- The summer just keeps getting better for a couple of Dirtbags. Long Beach State infielder Evan Longoria (Downey) and righthanded starter Jared Hughes (Laguna Beach) were both named starters to the East Squad for the 43rd Annual Cape Cod League All-Star Game on July 30 at 12:05 p.m. Pacific. The game will be broadcast live on College Sports Television. Longoria, who played short and third for the Dirtbags in 2004, was selected a starting second baseman for the East, as the junior-to-be leads the Cape with seven homers and 29 RBIs. Longoria is also batting .323. Longoria is a two-time Cape Cod Player of the Week. Longoria has made 10 starts at second, seven at third and 12 at short this summer. Hughes will take to the hill for East as the Cape's win leader, at 6-0, to go along with a 1.54 ERA. The righthander has struck out 42 and walked just nine this summer. Slated to be the staff ace in 2006, Hughes was 8-3 with a 2.83 ERA for the Dirtbags in 2005. | East Division All Stars: | | C | Danny Lehmann | Y-D | Rice | | 1B | Aaron Bates | Brewster | NC State | | 2B | Evan Longoria | Chatham | Long Beach State | | 3B | Chris Coghlan | Chatham | Mississippi | | SS | Manny Burriss | Orleans | Kent State | | LF | Baron Frost | Chatham | USC | | CF | Colin Curtis | Orleans | Arizona State | | RF | Alex Presley | Chatham | Mississippi | | DH | Jeff Kindel | Y-D | Georgia Tech | | P | Jared Hughes | Chatham | Long Beach State | | | | | | | | | | East Division Reserve All Stars: | | C | Jordan Abruzzo | Y-D | San Diego | | IF | Chris Errecart | Y-D | Cal Berkeley | | IF | Scott Sizemore | Harwich | VCU | | OF | Chris Emanuele | Harwich | Northeastern | | P | Tim Gustafson | Y-D | Georgia Tech | | P | Andrew Miller | Chatham | UNC | | P | Robert Woodard | Chatham | UNC | | P | P.J.
