Longoria Named Cape Cod Player of the Week CHATHAM, MA-- The Cape Cod League continues to get a taste of Dirtbag Baseball this summer. Evan Longoria (Downey), who leads the collegiate summer league in homers (6) and RBIs (22), was named the Cape Cod's Player of the Week after batting .400 with three homers, two doubles, a triple and 11 RBIs last week for the Chatham A's. Longoria, who is batting .337 with 15 runs, also has a .602 slugging percentage. This is the second time this season Longoria has been named the Cape's Top Weekly Player. Longoria is not alone. Long Beach State teammate Jared Hughes (Laguna Beach) is leading the Cape with a 5-0 mark and is second in ERA at 0.77 ERA over 35 innings. Also a Cape Cod Pitcher of the Week earlier this season, his ERA is second to Washington's Tim Linceum (0.61). Hughes has struck out 37 and walked eight. Both players will be juniors when they return in the fall to the Dirtbags. |
