Duo Named Cape Cod Players of the Week CHATHAM, MA-- The premier wood bat summer league in America featured a bit of Dirtbag baseball this week as juniors-to-be Evan Longoria (Downey) and Jared Hughes (Laguna Beach) swept the league's weekly awards, being named the Cape Cod's Player and Pitcher of the Week. Longoria, the team's shortstop and third baseman last year, is batting .350 (third in the Cape) with a league-best three homers, eight RBIs (fourth) and a .650 slugging percentage (third). Hughes meanwhile is a perfect 2-0 with a 1.20 ERA over 15.0 innings of work, which has featured 17 strikeouts and just one walk. Opponents are batting just .104 against him. The duo were both second team All-Big West selections in 2004 and are teammates on the Chatham A's. |
