Holland Named an Academic All-American LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State hammer thrower Steve Holland (Whittier) was named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-America team for the second straight year, earning a spot on the first team, after earning second team accolades as a sophomore. Holland, who carries a 3.96 GPA as a business major, is a three-time regional qualifier in the hammer and earned All-Big West honors as a sophomore. He holds the eighth-best hammer throw in school history at 193'2", set this year, and just missed out on his second-straight all-conference honor, finishing fourth at the conference championships. Holland is just the fourth 49er to be named an Academic All-American twice in their careers, joining volleyball players Keri Nishimoto (2000-01) and Anja Grabovac (1998-99) and distance runner Johann Appell (2000). |
