Ramos Named Big West's Best for Third Time IRVINE, CA-- Long Beach State lefthander Cesar Ramos (Pico Rivera) was named the Big West's Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season after taking a five-hit shutout into the ninth against Cal Poly and finishing with his 10th win of the season. Last Friday, Ramos went eight and two-thirds innings, giving up one run on seven hits, striking out six and walking one, as The Beach won its series with the Mustangs. Ramos, a national player of the year candidate and a mid-season All-American, has seen his national stock rise throughout the season, as the junior continues to rank amongst the nation's leaders with a 10-5 record and 2.02 ERA. The ERA leads the Big West and he is one of three 10-game winners in the conference. According to MLB.com, Ramos is projected to be the 18th pick overall and potentially one of three first round picks for the Dirtbags, joining shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and un-signed 2004 National Player of the Year Jered Weaver. The Beach, who moved up to as high as No. 10 by Baseball America, will close out the conference schedule with three games at top-ranked CS Fullerton this weekend. Friday's game will be on KVMD-23 in Los Angeles and Saturday's game will be nationally televised on CSTV. LBSU's regular season finale, at USC on May 25, will also be on KVMD-23. |
