McCoy Leads Five on All-Big West Team

49ers Achieve Five All-Big West Performers IRVINE, CA-- Long Beach State track and field picked up five all-conference selections on the first full day of the Big West Championships, as the 49ers look to score serious points in the women's sprints on Saturday. Tyler McCoy started the day with a win in the javelin with a regional qualifying mark of 202'10", while David Sampson's own lifetime-best edged teammate Ezra Kwong's personal-best (56'4") for All-Big West honors in the shot put with a throw of 57'0.25" for third place. Jimmy Grabow earned a third place finish in the 10,000-meter run to close out the day with a time of 31:00.83. On the women's side, Kristina Price threw a regional qualifier in the discus with a toss of 155'2", to earn all-conference honors with a third place show, while Merdith Kramon was second in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 36:33.87 to earn her first career All-BWC honor. In the women's finals in the sprints on Saturday, black and gold should be the predominate color, as The Beach have three runners in the 100, 200 and 400-meter races, led by Charlene Deardorff's 100-meter leading time of 11.73 and Jessica Branker's time of 24.99 in the 200-meter dash and Jessica Winfield's time of 55.03 in the 400-meter run, both which finished second in the preliminaries. LBSU will also have both of its women's relay teams running, which both lead the Big West. In the men's sprints, Charles Lewis and Ryan Kroll will be in the 200 and 400-meter races, with Lewis holding the fastest 400-meter time with a run of 47.49 on Friday. Overall, with just seven of the 21 events scored, the women are in third place with 31 points and the men are in sixth place (30.50).
