April 5, 2005
MADERA, CA - Kay Hoey won her second tournament of the spring season with a even-par 216 (77-68-71) at the inaugural Fresno State Invitational at the par-72 Riverbend Golf Course.
Long Beach State, who was the highest rank school in the tournament at No. 77, took second place overall at 929 (316-306-307), which was nine shots shy of Fresno State at 918 (306-305-307).
Hoey, who shot the only sub-par score in the second round, had an one shot lead going into today's round over Fresno State's Laura Luethke. Luethke, who was ranked No. 12 in the nation by Golfstat, carded a two-over 74 in the third round and took second place alone at 220, four strokes shy of Hoey.
"I'm very excited about the way I played today," said Hoey. "I'm playing with alot of confidence and trying not to put any pressure on me."
Hayley Wilkinson recorded her first top 10 finish for the year at 235 (77-79-79), which was tied for 10th and her score of 77 was a personal best as well. Eloise Vicencio finished tied for 17th at 240 (79-84-77).
The 49ers return to action this Saturday when they travel to Stanford, CA for the Peg Barnard Invitational at the Stanford Golf Course.
