49ers Ink Three More for 2005-06

49ers Ink Three in Spring Signing Period LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State women's basketball announced that wing Rosalyn Omouryi (Long Beach/Cypress/Poly HS) Shannon Clay (Walnut, CA/St. Bernards HS/West Los Angeles JC), and Elizabeth Cameron (Allen, TX/Allen HS) have all signed National Letters of Intent to play for the 49ers beginning in 2005-06. "These are three more pices of the puzzle that continue with our philosophy of recruiting locally and getting players who bring a high level of experience, success and desire to our program," said Head Coach Mary Hegarty, who just finished up her second season at 19-9. "I am looking to add one more player, which should make this an outstanding recruiting class." Omouryi is a 6-0 forward who will have two years remaining for the 49ers after playing two seasons at Cypress College. She averaged 13.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game as a freshman and led Cypress with 19.6 points and 10.0 rebounds per game for the state champions this season. A second team all-state selection at Cypress, she earned All-Moore league honors at Poly High, averaging 10 points and five rebounds per game. Clay, an incoming sophomore, is a 6-0 wing from West Los Angeles Junior College, who averaged 17 points, 12 rebounds and four assists per game last season. She was an All-CIF pick out of St. Bernard's High School after averaging 18 point and 10 rebounds. Cameron is a 6-0 all-district forward from Allen High School, just North of Dallas. Last year Cameron earned Defensive Player of the Year honors for the district after averaging 12 points and 10 rebounds per game. She was also an all-county and all-league selection LBSU signed four incoming freshmen during the early signing period: 5-8 point guard Karina Figueroa (Corona/Rosary HS), 5-10 guard Sheila Ho-Ching (Long Beach/Wilson HS), 6-0 forward Amanda Foster (Los Angeles/Marshall HS), and 5-8 guard Mary Has (Long Beach/Millikan HS). The seven newcomers are slated to join wing Crystal McCutcheon, forwards Jayme Connors, Fernanda Santos and Meghan Griffith and guards Jeannie Saunders and Val Willhoit on next year's team. |
