3/31/2005 12:00:00 AM | Track and Field
Heinz Named Field Athlete of the Week IRVINE, CA-- The honor may have come a little late, but Long Beach State's Kim Heinz (Florence, MT) still has the top mark in 49er history in the javelin throw, earning Big West Conference Field Athlete of the Week honors for setting the school-record in the event at the Long Beach Relays on March 5. Heinz won that meet, tossing a record 157'7" to knock Ami Goldhammer's barely one-year old record (155'2") from the book. Heinz had entered the season with the second farthest mark in 49er history (149'0"). So far this season Heinz has finished in the top-two in all three of her meets this season, finishing second at the Long Beach Classic and at the Stanford Invitational. The Athlete of the Week accolades were delayed due to the Big West Tournament. They will normally be released on Wednesday's starting next week.
