Young Achieves Top-10 Mark at Classic

49ers Pick Up Seven Individual Titles at LB Classic LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State achieved seven individual titles, including Samantha Young's top-10 mark nationally in the javelin as UC Santa Barbara won the women's title and Cornell took the men's top spot at the Long Beach Classic on Saturday. Young highlighted the 49ers on the afternoon, firing off a mark of 154'2", outdistancing teammate Kim Heinz, who finished second with a toss of 150'1". Heinz, who set the school-record earlier this season with with a throw of 157'0", and Young, should both have two of the top marks in the country. The women's team also saw individual titles in the 4x100-meter dash with a time of 45.80, Serena Boykin in the shot put (48'9.50"). Emily Forsythe in the high jump (5'8.75") and Katelyn Ciarelli in the discus (152'6"). On the men's side, LBSU swept through the discus with the top three scores led by Robert Jennings' mark of 163'7", while David Sampson (54'7.25") and Ezra Kwong (54'6.50") finished 1-2 in the shot put.
