Duo Named to Regional All-Freshman Team Silos and Bolt Earn Soccerbuzz.com Honor
December 21, 2005 NEW YORK, NY-- Long Beach State freshmen Hayley Bolt (Lakewood) and Kim Silos (Ontario) were each named to Soccerbuzz.com's All-Freshman Team for the West Region. The national All-Freshman Team will be announced on December 22. Bolt, the co-Freshman of the Year in the Big West, scored seven goals and added eight assists, while Silos, had a team-best 10 goals and five assists. Bolt was the co-leader in the conference in assists, while Silos was second in goals scored. The two combined for nine of the team's 12, game-winning goals. The 49ers finished with a record-breaking season, finishing 12-5-3, and achieved its first-ever national ranking (No. 25), tied the school-record for wins and competed in its first-ever Big West Tournament. Not surprisingly, national champion, Portland, garnered the top honors, with Christine Sinclair (player), Megan Rapinoe (freshman) and Garrett Smith (coach), earning the top honors in arguably the toughest region in the country. The Big West Conference finished fourth out of 30 conferences in the season-ending Women's Soccer Ratings Percentage Index, steadily improving from No. 14 (2002), to No. 12 (2003) to No. 10 (2004). Big West Champion, CS Fullerton had an RPI of 12, followed by UC Riverside (38), the 49ers (45) and Cal Poly (46). This is the highest ranking for the conference. |
