MISSOULA, MT -- The Long Beach State women's basketball team had its four-game win streak snapped at the hands Montana Grizzlies, 58-57, on Saturday night from the Dahlberg Fieldhouse. Rosalyn Omoruyi paced The Beach (4-3) with a career-high 23 points and 14 rebounds for her first career double-double as a 49er. Crystal McCutcheon added 11 points, and Jayme Connors pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds. Long Beach State shot just 29 percent from the field (21-of-71), but did out-rebound the Lady Grizz, 51-42. Dana Conway and Katie Edwards both had 13 points to lead Montana in scoring. Montana (4-2) held leads by as many as nine points in the second half, before Long Beach State made a late 6-0 run to trim the deficit to 54-53 (Omoruyi layup) with 4:11 left in regulation. Neither team could score over the next three minutes until a pair of Conway free throws extended the Lady Grizz lead to 56-53 with 1:51 left in the game. LBSU cut the lead to one point again on an Omoruyi layup, but a pair of Edwards free throws pushed the lead back to three points with 11 seconds remaining. The Beach could not get a clean look at a three-pointer to tie the contest in the final seconds. Long Beach State jumped out to a 4-0 lead early in the first half, courtesy of two straight Omoruyi layups. In fact Omoruyi posted 10 points and nine rebounds alone in the first half. Montana tied the score at 6-6 after two straight three-pointers from Edwards and Sonya Rogers. The Lady Grizz held a five-point lead (13-8) after a Conway three-pointer, before Long Beach State cut the lead to one point (15-14) after a Jeannie Saunders layup at the 12:15 mark. Montana pushed its lead to four (19-15) after another Conway jumper. But the 49ers responed with a 6-0 run to take a 21-19 lead at the 5:48 mark, after two consecutive three-pointers by McCutcheon. A Mandy Morales three-pointer helped spark a 9-0 Lady Grizz run to end the half with a 28-23 lead. Long Beach State shot just 22 percent in the first half (9-of-40). The 49ers return home for a four-game homestand, beginning with LMU on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 2 pm. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
