49ers Net Four on All-Big West Team IRVINE, CA-- With eight freshmen starters and a top-25 ranking during the season, it was a sure bet that one of Long Beach State's women's soccer players would be named the conference freshman of the year. Hayley Bolt (Lakewood) was that player, earning co-Big West Freshman of the Year honors with UC Santa Barbara's Genelle Ives, as one of four 49ers named all-conference. Bolt and fellow freshman midfielder Kim Silos (Ontario) were both named to the second team, while freshman forward Sahar Haghdan (Palmdale) was an honorable mention selection. Bolt set the modern day record for assists (8), while Silos pushed across the record for goals (10). Three of the four freshmen named all-conference were from LBSU. Junior defender Natalie Messina (Santa Rosa), who will have two surgeries following the team's record-setting 12-5-3 finish, was named honorable mention All-Big West for the third time in her career. Messina and the rest of the 49er backline shattered the school-record for shutouts (11) and goals against average (0.81), and allowed the least amount of goals (17) and shots (186) in a season. CS Fullerton's Kellie Cox and Kandace Wilson were named co-Offensive Player of the Year. Titan Marlene Sandoval was the Defensive Player of the Year, while her teammate, Karen Bardsley, was the Goalkeeper of the Year. CS Northridge's Brianna Monka was the Midfielder of the Year. Ali Khosroshahin (CSF) and Veronica O'Brien (UC Riverside) were named co-Coaches of the Year. |
