49ers Leads Big West Commissioner's Cup Race Beach Leads Second Place UC Santa Barbara November 30, 2005
IRVINE , CA-- After the completion of five fall Big West Conference sports, Long Beach State is currently in first place in the Big West Commissioner's Cup race. The 49ers finished no lower than third in the four sports they competed in this fall. Six of the eight schools in the league each won or tied for one league championship apiece.
The 49ers tied for first place in women's volleyball, finished third in women's soccer and third in both men's and women's cross country for a total score of 500 points, or a 125.0 point average. Following the 49ers is UC Santa Barbara which shared the women's volleyball title with the 49ers, had second place finishes in men's soccer, men's cross country and women's cross country and tied for four place in women's soccer. UCSB has a 120.0 point average.
The Big West Commissioner's Cup is presented at the end of the spring season to the institution with the top overall point average tallied from Big West Conference Championships. To determine the champion, total points are summer and divided by the number of championships in which each institution competes. Each sport champion is also given a 20-point bonus.
