49er Picked as Second in Pre-Season Poll

Men Picked as High as Fifth; Women Second IRVINE, CA-- The Big West Conference had its annual media day on Wednesday and Long Beach State basketball was picked to finish second on the women's side by both the conference's eight coaches and the media, while the men were picked to finish fifth in the media poll and sixth in the coaches poll. Two 49ers also made the pre-season all-conference teams, with senior Jibril Hodges (Park Forest, IL) earning a nod on the men's side, while senior Crystal McCutcheon (Lancaster) picked up one of six spots on the women's side. In the media polls, the men received 97 points, behind CS Fullerton, Pacific, UC Santa Barbara and CS Northridge, while the women were second with 67 points, with one first place vote behind UCSB's 79 points and nine first place votes. In the coaches poll, the women received two first place votes and 43 overall points to UCSB's 46, while the men received 23 points, one point behind fifth place UC Irvine. The Titans were also picked to win it in the coaches poll. The men have its only exhibition, against CS Los Angeles on November 11, while the women, after defeating Love and Basketball last night, host Team Concept on November 10.
