Farquhar Named to National Team of the Week LONG BEACH, CA-- For the second time this season. And well, for the second time in school-history, Long Beach State women's soccer has a national player of the week. Freshman midfielder Dana Farquhar (Redlands) was named to both Soccerbuzz.com and Soccer America's National Teams of the Week for her two-goal, one assist performance last week. The five-point tally vaulted the 49ers (10-3-1, 3-1-0 Big West) into the national rankings for the first time in school-history, as Soccer America ranked them No. 25. LBSU remains in the regional rankings in the NSCAA (10th) and Soccerbuzz.com (13th), both their highest rankings to date. They next play October 18 against Idaho. It was Farquhar's first goals of the season, both in the upset of No. 20-ranked Cal Poly, as she is amongst Big West leaders in assists with four. To give some prospective as to where the up-start program ranks amongst other nationally prominent 49er teams, women's volleyball has received six American Volleyball Coaches Association Players of the Week, while the Dirtbag baseball team has had 10 national players of the week. Both of those sports choose one player each week, while soccer chooses, in most cases, has an 11-person national team of the week. |
