Trio Shines in Flagstaff

Trio Shines in Flagstaff FLAGSTAFF, AZ-- Charlene Deardorff, Jessica Branker and Franchelle Smith each broke into the top-five all-time at Long Beach State to highlight the 49ers at the Northern Arizona Indoor Invitational. As a team, LBSU took two of three of the women's dual events while losing the both men's dual events. Individually, LBSU swept the four open sprint races on the women's side, and also swept the men's and women's high jump, triple jump and shot put. "We hada good performance, especially from our sprinters," said Director of Track and Field Andy Sythe. "It's a nice statement for our sprinters to do so well, especially with the work they have done with assistant coach Yvonne Scott over the fall. I'm also pleased with our throwers." Three women moved into the top-five all-time in indoor events, as Charlene Deardorff ran the second fastest 60-meter time at 7.52, while Jessica Branker had the third fastest time in the 200-meter (24.70). Franchelle Smith had the fifth fastest 60-meter hurdle time with a time of 9.17 seconds. All three one their events. In all, The 49er women swept the top three spots in the 200-meter, took the top two places in the 60-meter and 60-meter hurdles and won the 400-meter. LBSU also took all three places in the high jump and won the women's triple jump and shot put. On the men's side, the 49ers swept through the high jump and shot put, and won the top two spots in the triple jump. John Temidara highlighted the men's side winning the high jump with an NCAA provisional mark of 7'2.25". Haben Hagos won the triple jump with a jump of 47'8.25", while David Sampson won the shot put with 51'2". Dual scores were as followed: Men-- Northern Arizona 71, LBSU 57; Southern Utah 84, LBSU 50. Women-- LBSU 73, CS Fullerton 42; LBSU 69, Southern Utah 66; Northern Arizona 70, LBSU 62. |
