Three 49ers Earn All-America Honors
Tyler Hilderbrand, Scott Touzinsky and David Lee Honored
May 6, 2004 HONOLULU, HI-- Long Beach State men's volleyball players Scott Touzinsky, Tyler Hildebrand and David Lee were all selected as AVCA first team All-Americans, as announced on Wednesday, May 5 at the NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship Press Conference.
Touzinsky, a senior opposite hitter from St. Louis, MO, earned a first team nod after averaging 4.54 kills, 1.69 digs and 0.82 blocks per game this season. Touzinsky also established a career, and an MPSF season-high, 40 kills versus BYU on January 30. He already owns the school record with 151 career service aces, and ranks No. 5 all-time with 1,612 kills. Touzinsky was also selected first team All-MPSF this season.
Last year's AVCA Newcomer of the Year, Hildebrand earned first team honors after averaging 14.26 assists and 1.44 digs per game, while posting a .405 attack percentage. The sophomore setter from Mesa, AZ registered an MPSF season-high 81 assists vs. BYU on January 30, and is No. 1 in the nation in total assists (1,668) and assists per game (14.26). Hildebrand is a two-time AVCA National Player of the Week (Mar. 8 and Apr. 26), and is a first team All-MPSF selection.
Lee rounds out the first team selections for the 49ers after notching 1.46 blocks and a .414 attack percentage this season. The senior middle blocker from Alpine, CA, who ranked in the top-5 in the country in blocks per game throughout the season, will leave as one of the program's all-time best hitters with a .414 career attack percentage. Lee was also a first team All-MPSF selection.
Long Beach State (27-6) faces Penn State (23-6) in the NCAA National Semifinal on Thursday, May 8 live on ESPN2 at 9 pm (PST).
