Fifteen Head to Northridge for Regional Championships

Fifteen Athletes Head to West Regionals LONG BEACH, CA--Fifteen athletes will head to Northridge this Friday through Saturday to compete at the NCAA West Regional Championships at Cal State Northridge. Regionals were implemented last year to widen the field at the NCAA Championships. In order to qualify for hte NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, an athlete must finish in the top-five at the meet. If they do not finish in the top-five, then seven to eight at-large spots will come off the descending order national list. The travel group includes one sprinter, one distance runner, three jumpers and nine throwers. Female athletes ranking in the top-ten in the region are: Emily Forsythe (9th, high jump-5'10.75"), Serena Boykin (9th, shot put-50'03.50"), Stephanie Sampson (10th, hammer-193'05.00"), and Ami Goldhammer (8th, javelin, 154'00.00"). Male athletes ranking in the top-ten in the region are: Shingo Suzumura (10th, 110m hurdles, 14.29), John Temidara (3rd, high jump, 7'03.00"), Haben Hagos (9th, high jump, 6'11.75"), and Doug Lefler (4th, javelin, 235'02.00"). Other athletes competing are Katelyn Ciarelli (discus, 158'08"), Serena Boykin (158'09"), Steve Holland (hammer, 191'02"), John Temidara (triple jump, 50'04.75"), Megan Irey (triple jump, 40'06.25"), Nina Grubbs (javelin, 143'08.00"), Kim Heinz (javelin, 145'02.00"), Sean Blandford (javelin, 207'09.00"), and Jennifer Yadon (steeplechase, 10:41.54). The meet will begin on Friday, May 28 with the women's hammer and end on Saturday. |
