Impressive Day for Track at Steve Scott Invite

Impressive Showing for Track at Steve Scott Invite IRVINE, CA--Head Coach Andy Sythe went into the Steve Scott Invite with the hopes of picking up Big West qualifiers, improving regional marks, and setting lifetime bests. On Sunday, the team did just what he wanted, as the 49er track team excelled under a blistering sun at UC Irvine. The team picked up 13 new Big West qualifying marks and improved on numerous already qualified marks. Several 49ers also increased their regional qualifying marks in the meet. Emily Forsythe was the sole 49er to win an individual event, jumping a lifetime-best 5-10 in the high jump. The mark was also an improvement on her Big West and regional qualifying mark. Teammate John Temidara continued his impressive season, finishing second to one of the best high jumpers in the country, Jaime Nieto, as he jumped 7'02.00". Haben Hagos finished sixth with a lifetime-best 6'11.00". His mark improves his regional and Big West qualifying mark. Hagos also jumped a lifetime-best 49'03.00" in the triple jump, just missing the regional qualifying mark. Robert Nelson picked up a Big West qualifier in the triple jump with a mark of 46'06.00". Stephanie Sampson improved by over a foot and a half in the shot put, throwing 44'09.00" to finish fifth overall. Sampson finished fourth in the shot with a toss of 186'05.00". Nina Grubbs threw a lifetime-best by seven feet, 135'05.00", finishing fifth overall. Ryan McHugh improved his Big West qualifying mark in the javein with a lifetime-best 182'00.00". Several distance runners picked up Big West qualifiers in the meet. Jennifer Yadon picked up a qualifier in the 1500m with a lifetime-best of 4:41.52. Sharon Burnett ran a season-best 2:16.33 in the 800m to qualify for the championships. Mike Dickran improved his time in the 800m running 1:52.85, while teammate Hudson Wilvers picked up a qualifying mark of 1:54.90. Loren Childers (3:55.50), Wolhan Ovalle (3:56.50), and Steve Cardinalli (3:57.00) each picked up Big West qualifiers in the 1500m, while Jake Kruczynski (15:00.00) and Kenny Lawrence (15:05.00) picked up qualifiers in the 5000m. Jessica Branker dropped below the 12 second barrier, running a lifetime-best 11.93 in the 100m. Charlene Deardorff also picked up a Big West qualifier in the 100m with a time of 12.17. Jasmine Winfield picked up a qualifier in the 200m with a time of 25.06. Shanille Fairweather ran a Big West qualifying time of 57.26 in the 400m, while Ami Goldhammer ran a lifetime-best 15.01 in the 100m hurdles, qualifying her for the Big West meet in that event. Ryan Kroll improved his season-best in the 400m with a time of 48.08, while Charles Lewis picked up his qualifier with a time of 48.67. Shingo Suzumura equaled his season-best in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.29. The majority of the team will take the next two weeks off as they prepare for the Big West Championships. Those who need a quailfying mark will compete at Occidental on Saturday.
