LBSU Pulls off Big Rally

LBSU Rallies to Defeat Hawai'i, 3-2 HONOLULU, HI – The No. 2-ranked Long Beach State men's volleyball team rallied from an 0-2 match deficit to defeat the No. 6-ranked Hawaii Warriors, 3-2 at the Stan Sheriff Center on Saturday night. Game scores were 21-30, 23-30, 30-28, 30-27, 15-13. Long Beach State improved to 22-5, 15-4 MPSF, while the UH fell to 15-9, 11-7 MPSF. Scott Touzinsky paced The Beach with a team-high 22 kills, to go along with nine digs, five blocks, and one ace. In fact it was Touzinky's lone ace that ended the match. Jeff Wootton added 14 kills and three blocks, while Robert Tarr chipped in with 12 kills, five digs, three blocks, and one ace. David Lee rounded out the top 49er kill leaders with 11 with eight blocks. Tyler Hildebrand directed the 49er offense with 61 assists, nine digs, four blocks, and two kills. Matt Bender led the Warrior offense for the second straight night with a match-high 25 kills in the losing effort. As a team, LBSU hit for a .280 clip. The 49ers hit above .340, though, in games three and four to tie the match at 2-2. The Beach out-dug UH, 41-36, but were out-blocked, 19-15. Down 0-2 in the match, LBSU rallied for a 30-28 game three victory. Touzinky's kill at 29-28 proved to be the game winner. The 49ers sent the match to a fifth set courtesy of the senior Touzinsky who blasted a kill at 29-27 for the game winner. Touzinsky was the hero once again in game five with his service ace to end the match at 15-13. Long Beach State returns home to face CS Northridge on April 8 at 7:30 p.m. in The Pyramid. |
