Coe, Garcia Garner NSCA All-American Honors Accomplishments in the Weight Room Pay Dividends
April 21, 2004 COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) has recognized Long Beach State athletes, Clint Coe of the men's volleyball team, and Angelica Garcia of the women's water polo team, as NSCA All-Americans, as announced by the association on Wednesday.
Coe, a senior from Quartz Hill, Calif., collected All-American honors after his accomplishments in the weight room this season. His personal marks include a bench press of 210 lbs., a vertical jump of 31.5, an a power clean of 242 lbs. Coe is on a Long Beach State men's volleyball team that is ranked No. 2 in the country with a 25-5 record. LBSU hosts UC Santa Barbara in a 1st Round MPSF playoff match on Saturday, Apr. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in The Pyramid. "Clint is a tireless worker who is fully committed to being the best he an be," said 49er Strength and Conditioning coach, Jason Miller. "He is earning playing time with his work ethic."
Garcia, a senior from Catano, Puerto Rico, earned NSCA All-American honors after posting marks in the weight room with a bench press of 128 lbs., a vertical jump of 21.5, and a power clean of 130 lbs. "Her commitment to her training has become contagious," said Miller. "Her team has improved significantly as a result." Garcia has helped the women's water polo team to a 19-6 record and a No. 4 National ranking. She leads the team with 49 goals this season. LBSU faces UC Santa Barbara in the final regular season home match at the Campus Pool on Saturday, Apr. 24 at 2:00 p.m.
The NSCA grants All-American honors to those athletes whose athletic accomplishments, in the opinion of their strength coach, reflect their dedication to strength and conditioning. The NSCA awarded 186 collegiate athletes from 80 schools this season. |
