49ers Fall To Northridge, 64-56 Ian Boylan Leads The Matadors With 20 Points

LONG BEACH, CA-- The Long Beach State men's basketball team fell to the CS Northridge Matadors, 64-56 in a Big West Conference game at The Pyramid, Thursday evening.
Long Beach State fell to 6-13 (4-6 Big West), while CS Northridge improved to 8-10 (4-6 Big West).
Forward Kevin Roberts paced The Beach with a team-high 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field. Roberts also added a team-high eight rebounds, and one steal. Marcel Jackson chipped in with 13 points, five boards, and two blocks. Jibril Hodges (nine points) and Anthony Coleman (six points) highlighted the top 49er scoring. It was Coleman's first game in a 49er uniform. Kevin Houston notched a career-high 10 assists in the losing effort.
Ian Boylan led all scorers with a game-high 20 points for the Matadors. Nine of Boylan's points came from the free throw line where he as 9-12, including hitting six of eight in the final 1:20 of the contest. Forward Eto Onyenegecha added 18 points, eight rebounds, and three steals, and center Thomas Shewmake rounded out the top Matador scoring with 12 points and seven rebounds.
The Matadors on the night, out-rebounded the 49ers 42-31, including 14 offensive rebounds. CSUN also made 13 of 16 free throws, including 8-of-10 in the last 1:20 of the game. Long Beach State only managed to shoot 11-of-25 from the line (44%).
CS Northridge increased its lead to 10 points at 13:49 in the second half, after a Michael Scott three-pointer, 44-34. The Matadors never lost the lead the rest of the way. Long Beach State did cut the deficit to four points at 56-52 aftert a Roberts lay-up with 2:58 left in regulation.
Long Beach State faces Pacific on Saturday, February 7 at 7:35 p.m. in The Pyramid.
