Bret Lederer Ties For 18th With a 212

TUCSON, AZ-- The Long Beach State men's golf team finished in 13th place at the 2004 PING-Arizona Intercollegiate at the Arizona National County Club at Sabino Springs in Tucson, AZ. The 49ers shot a three-round score of 879 (289-288-302). Arizona won the team title with an 824 (267-271-286) and New Mexico came in second with an 834 (275-269-290). This was the first tournament for the 49ers this spring.

"Overall, I don't think we played as poorly as the score indicates," said Head Coach Bob Livingstone. "We had about four holes which hurt us and which turned out to be the difference in moving up the ladder four or five spots. Without a doubt, this will be the strongest field we will face all year."

Leading the way for LBSU was redshirt freshman Brett Lederer (Lakewood) who shot a one-under-par 212 (70-67-75) for the tournament, to tie for 18th place. Freshman Jeremy Keller (Las Vegas, NV) tied for 46th with a seven-over-par 220 (72-75-73) and sophomore Todd Saukkola (Orange) tied for 53rd with a 222 (75-69-78).

Winning the overall individual title was Arizona's Chris Nallen who shot an 18-under-par 195 (63-64-68) on the Par 71, 6,793 yard course. Pepperdine's Michael Putnam came in second with a 200 (68-65-67).

The 49ers are next in action on March 1-2 when they compete in the UTSA Roadrunner Invitational at Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, TX.
