LBSU Topples Matadors, 3-0 49ers Win Seventh Straight Match
February 25, 2004 NORTHRIDGE, CA – The No.1-ranked Long Beach State men's volleyball team (Volleyball Magazine / No. 3 AVCA) won its seventh straight match with a 3-0 victory at CS Northridge in an MPSF battle at The Matadome on Wednesday night. Game scores were 30-28, 30-22, 31-29.
Long Beach State improved to 14-3, 9-2 MPSF, while CS Northridge fell to 10-6, 5-5 MPSF. The 49ers have won 21 straight games, and six out of the last seven by 3-0 sweeps.
Scott Touzinsky paced The Beach with 18 kills, six digs, five blocks, and one ace. It is the 13th time this season that Touzinsky has recorded double-digits in kills. Duncan Budinger added 10 kills and a career-high eight block assists. David Lee chipped in with nine kills and five blocks. Tyler Hildebrand netted the offense with 41 assists and added two kills, four digs, two blocks, and one ace. Paul Munoz recorded a match-high eight digs. Dan Rhodes recorded a match-high 22 kills in the losing effort for the Matadors.
As a team, Long Beach State hit for a .320 clip (47-16-97), out-dug (30-22), and out-blocked Northridge, 15-6.
Long Beach State travels to UC Santa Barbara on Friday, February 27 at 7:00 p.m.
