49ers, Pacific Tie 0-0 In Double Overtime
LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State (5-5-2, 0-2-1) fired off nine shots on goal, including four in the overtime frame, only to tie Big West rival, Pacific (5-3-4, 1-0-2) 0-0 on Friday afternoon. The 49ers took seven shots after the first 90 minutes and 15 for the contest, as Allison Wiegand's (Modesto) shot in the 109th minute went high for the final attempt of the afternoon. Pacific's Jaime Souza was forced to make eight saves, including game-savers by Allison Reeves (Lakewood) in the 105th minute and Katelyn Quaresma (Manteca) in the 97th minute.Two more attempts by Rowinski in the 86th and 72nd minutes, were also saved by Souza. LBSU goalie Tara Gotthardt (Pleasanton) made four saves, three of those on soft shots in the two overtime periods. Kristin Travis (Davis) had a chance at an open net in the 87th minute, but the Pacific team stifled an attack on the left wing. Pacific took eight shots for the match. The sixth shutout of the year ties a 49er school-record. The Beach are next in action when it hosts CS Northridge on Sunday at 2 p.m., while Pacific travels down Interstate 405 for a contest at UC Irvine.
