49ers Fall 3-1 at Idaho
MOSCOW, ID-- Long Beach State women's soccer (5-8-2, 0-5-1 Big West) remained winless in Big West Conference play, dropping a 3-1 decision to host Idaho (3-10-0, 1-4-0 Big West) on Sunday morning. "We simply got out played," said first-year Head Coach Mauricio Ingrassia. "We didn't have a lot of energy. Give credit to Idaho, they came into the match to play." The 49ers showed life early, fighting back after the Vandals took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute when Jenny Springer found the lower left corner of the net at 15:19. Erin Empting connected on a shot, into the wind, at 16:29, which tied it at 1-1. Springer than scored again at 39:31, scurrying past the 49er defense to give Idaho a 2-1 halftime lead. For good measure, Melissa Martinazi scored at 69:43 to put the contest out of reach, one of only three shots by the Vandals in the half. The Beach outshot Idaho 17-to-11 for the contest, outshooting the Vandals 10-to-3 in the seocond half. Idaho though, behind five saves on the day from goalie Lindsay Smith, kept the 49ers off the scoreboard after the 17th minute. The 49ers close out the season with three matches at home over the next two weeks, beginning with travel-partner UC Irvine at George Allen Field on Friday, October 22 at 3 p.m. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
