49ers to Sponsor Blood Drive

49ers to Host Blood Drive on September 11
Second Annual Event at The Pyramid from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State Athletics, in association with the Red Cross, will hold its second annual Blood Drive on Thursday, September 11 in The Pyramid from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Signups can be taken over the phone at (562) 985-7565 or prospective donors can come to The Pyramid on Atherton Street on September 11 and enter through the upper concourse above Frog's Sports Club by the blue entrance.

The process usually takes anywhere from a half hour to 45 minutes to complete. First time and repeat donors are welcome.

Some Facts from the American Red Cross:
• 1 donation (or unit or pint) of blood can save up to 3 or more lives.
• Less than 3% of Southern California residents donate blood.
• On average, 30 to 50 units of blood is used for an average liver transplant; for Southern California to stay in supply, an average of 1500 units of blood is needed DAILY to care for patients' needs.
• Red blood cells have a shelf live of 42 days, so the need for blood is constant.
• Those who donate blood can immediately resume their daily activities.
