49ers Fall 1-0, Despite Strong Offensive Effort LONG BEACH, CA-- Despite a much improved offensive effort, Long Beach State women's soccer (0-4-0) was shutout for the fourth straight time, losing 1-0 to visiting Hawaii (3-1-0). The Beach surpassed its shot total for the season, early in the second half, finishing with 13 shots, outshooting Hawaii by two. The lone goal of the afternoon, came on Hawaii's second shot, at 24:28, as Robyn deHay took a pass from Mia Moe and scored from the right side from 10 yards out, past a diving Meghan Hartwyk (Los Alamitos). Hawaii would make just one more attempt on goal, in the first half, as the 49er defense pitched its third one-goal match of the season. The Beach, after tallying just eight shots over its first three matches, tallied seven shots in the first half, including three which were stopped by goalie Mahie Atay. The Beach ended up outshooting the Wahine 13 to 11 for the match. Senior co-captain Abie Curry (Chico) had two shots on goal in the first 20 minutes, with Atay saving one. The Beach had two more opportunities to tie the match in the second half. Co-captain Lauren Doffing (San Diego) missed a header sent in from Heather Kindschi (Huntington Beach) in the 57th minute, while Erin Empting (Fountain Valley) missed a shot from just outside the penalty box in the 85th minute following a 49er attack. The Beach hosts its first ever 49er Classic next Friday and Sunday, featuring UC Santa Barbara, Eastern Washington and Southern Utah.
