TRACK ATHLETES GARNER TOP HONORS LONG BEACH, CA -- Several individuals on the 2003 track and field team earned top honors for their achievements in the classroom. Two athletes were named to the Verizon Academic All-America At Large team, while seven athletes were named to the US Track Coaches Association Academica All-America Team. The Big West Conference Male Field Event Athlete of the Year and former thrower Cory Loebl (Portland, OR) and stand-out sophomore distance star Jennifer Yadon (Lancaster) were named to the Verizon Academic All-America At Large team for the 2003 season. Loebl ended his collegiate career with a 3.650 overall GPA in kinesiology. Yadon, now in her junior year at The Beach, finished the year with an overall GPA of 3.934. Three women earned All-America honors from the USTCA. They include: Shannon Daniels (Upland), Stephanie Sampson (Yorba Linda) and Jennifer Yadon. The women's team GPA of 3.187 ranked 31st in the country. On the men's side, four athletes earned All-America status. They include Steve Holland (Whittier, CA) with a 4.0, Cory Loebl, Frank Rodriguez (San Pedro), and Adrian Ruark (San Diego). |
