Curry's Two Leads Beach to Third Straight

Curry Leads Beach Past Hartford HARTFORD, CT-- Senior Abie Curry (Chico) scored two goals and added an assist as Long Beach State (3-4-0) defeated host Hartford (2-5-0) 3-1 on Friday evening. Curry, who became the school's all-time points leader on Sunday, gave LBSU its third win in a row, as she now has 32 points in her career. Curry cinched the match at 68:33, giving the 49ers a 3-1 lead, breaking through the Hawk defense, after taking a pass from MacKenzie Blechel (Forestville) thus putting the match away. Thirty-six second early Jaime Pendelton had closed the deficit to 2-1, scoring from 15 yards out. The 49ers outshot Hartford, who had reached six straight NCAA tournaments entering the season, 16 to 10. Curry put The Beach on the board at 27:44, being at the right place and the right time after Allison Wiegand's cross deflected high off the goalkeeper, after Heather Kindschi passed it to Wiegand. LBSU went up 2-0 at 42:45 as Erin Empting launched took a short pass from Curry, 30 yards out and fired it into the upper corner. The Beach controled much of the first half, limiting the Hawks to just five shots, while taking 12 of its own. The 49ers continue its trek back East, traveling to No. 7-ranked UConn on Sunday, before returning home next Saturday to host Weber State. |
