Beach Picked 5th In Big West Poll
49ers Open Season On August 29 Vs. University of San Diego

IRVINE, CA--The 49er women's soccer team was picked to finish in fifth place by the conference coaches in the Big West Conference women's soccer pre-season poll. The 49ers received 59 votes, trailing fourth place UC Irvine by just one vote. The league's coaches forsee a tight race for the 2003 title as UC Santa Barbara was picked to finish first with 92 points, Cal Poly second with 89 points and CS Fullerton third with 82. All three of those squads received at least two first place votes.

The 49ers are coming off a fifth place league finish in 2002 as they compiled a 4-2-3 record in Big West play. Overall, The Beach was 6-9-5. Head Coach Peter Reynaud's squad will have two scrimmages prior to the regular season opener on August 29 vs. the University of San Diego (4 pm, George Allen Field). The 49ers will tangle with Azusa Pacific on August 23 at 7 pm, at APU, and then will host Biola at 5 pm on Tuesday, August 26 at George Allen Field.
