49ers prove to be hostile host in 6-1 win over Pepperdine Long Beach, CA - In front of the largest crowd to ever witness a Long Beach State baseball game at Blair Field (3,139), the 49ers defeated Pepperdine 6-1 in game two of the 2003 NCAA Baseball Regional at Long Beach State The 49ers (39-18) got on the board on the first pitch to leadoff hitter Todd Jennings in the bottom of the first inning as Jennings hit his fifth home run of the season, extending his personal hit streak to 24 games. The 49ers would add two more runs in the inning to take a 3-0. That would prove to be more than enough for Long Beach State starter Abe Alaverez (11-1), who cruised to victory, allowing just one run on four hits and four walks in seven innings. Jennings factored in two of the 49ers final three runs as well knocking in single runs in the fourth and the eighth to finish the day 2-4 with three RBI. The 49ers will move on to face Washington at 3 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, May 31. The Waves (36-24), meanwhile face Minnesota at 11 a.m. in the first elimination game.
