| 49ERS HEAD SOUTH FOR CAL-NEVADAS Team Travels to San Deigo State to Compete in the Cal-Nevada Championships
April 9, 2003 FULL RELEASE LONG BEACH, CA -- The track and field team will travel to San Diego State this weekend to compete in the Cal-Nevada Championships.The meet will be held Friday through Saturday with all events beginning at 11:00 am on Friday, field events at 11:00 am on Saturday, and track events at 1:00 pm on Saturday. The competition will include several Big West rivals, Pac-10, Western Athletic Conference, and Mountain West Conference teams. "This meet will give our regional qualifiers an opportunity to compete against some of the best athletes in our region," said Head Coach Andy Sythe. "The meet will offer up a sort of test to our athletes to see how they fair with the competitors they will face in late May at the regional meet." This meet will also give those athletes who are on the verge of hittng qualifying marks an opportunity to qualify. "We expect good conditions and strong competition in every event which will push us towards better marks and times," added Coach Sythe. Several Long Beach athletes are ranked in the top-three amongst the competitors for Cal-Nevada. They include: Cory Loebl in the hammer (3rd, 193'11"), Kenny Lawrence in the steeplechase (3rd, 9:12.45), Frank Rodriguez in the javelin (1st, 210'09"), Gladys Iwuaba in the triple jump (2nd, 40'09.50"), and Jennifer Yadon in the steeplechase (3rd, 10:53.99). |
