RODRIGUEZ BREAKS JAVELIN RECORD IN SEASON OPENER
Senior Highlights Jack Rose Relays
LONG BEACH, CA-- The Long Beach State track and field team opened up the season strong at the Jack Rose Relays, led by senior javelin thrower Frank Rodriguez's personal best and school-record in the javelin (214'2") finishing first overall. Rodriguez was just the first of many 49ers to record a personal best for the meet. Junior Samy Meredith threw a lifetime best of 161'06" in the hammer throw to finish third overall , while redshirt freshman Steve Holland threw a lifetime best of 172'00" to win the men's hammer. Shingo Suzumura won the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.52. Dan Trautner recorded a lifetime best in the high jump with a leap of 6'6 3/4". Holly Lipscomb won the long jump and was a key leg on several relay teams. Both the men's and women's 4x400m relay teams won their events in a tough field of competitors. Jessica Williams keyed the women's 4x400m victory with a come-from-behind final leg. The men's distance medley team comprised of Michael Dickran, Terrance Wroblewski, Pedro Fernandez, and Jake Kruczynski ran a great race, and should make a strong impact in next week's indoor conference championships. "This was a good day for us," said Coach Andy Sythe. "Across the board, we had several lifetime best performances and meet champions. I'm especially proud of how the Long Beach State community came out to support the track and field team in their home opener.
