49ers Fall At Minnesota, 88-58 Minnesota jumped to a 9-2 lead in the first 1:36 of the game, but the 49ers responded with a 10-0 to take a 12-9 lead at the 15:46 mark. Chris Jenkins' three-pointer, his first of four in the game, gave the 49ers the 12-9 lead. After Roberts hit a trey at the 13:22 mark, the 49ers had their biggest lead of the game, 15-11. Minnesota then responded with a 12-0 run over the next five-plus minutes to take a 23-15 lead at 8:00. Once again the 49ers made a valiant run, cutting the deficit to 27-24 at 5:27 after a three-pointer by freshman Lucian Graham. Back-to-back three's by Ben Johnson and Adam Boone pushed the advantage to 10 (35-25) and the Gophers settled for a 41-32 halftime lead. The 49ers had just five turnovers in the first half and shot 4-9 from three-point range to stay in the game. The 49ers also had 19 first half rebounds, seven offensive, while Minnesota also checked in with 19 boards. In the second half Jenkins hit two more three's early on and the 49ers trailed 49-38 at the 17:22 mark, but from then on it was all Minnesota. The Gophers went on a 16-3 run over the next six-plus minutes to take a 65-41 lead with 11:07 left on the clock. That lead would grow to as many as 33 points (86-53) before the final margin of 30 points, 88-58. The 49ers shot just .304 (7-23) from the field in the second half and committed 11 turnovers, finishing the game with 16 miscues. Jenkins finished the evening with 12 points, hitting 4-6 shots from three-point range, and Cody Pearson added 12 points in 21 minutes of action. Louis Darby had seven points and four rebounds and Graham had six points, hitting two three's. LBSU was out-rebounded 44-36, the second straight game the 49ers have been beaten on the boards. Minnesota was 17-25 at the free throw line, including a perfect 6-6 for Humphries. The Golden Gophers only committed six turnovers in the game and recorded nine steals. Michael Bauer and Johnson both had 11 points for Minnesota. The 49ers are off until December 20 when they host Southern Utah at 7:35 pm in The Pyramid.
