Long Beach State Falls in Exhibition Freshman Kevin Houston led The Beach with 16 points, while Kevin Roberts and Jibril Hodges chipped in 12 a piece. Marcel Jackson led the team with nine rebounds. The Beach shot 42% for the game. "We now have some things we need to work on," said Head Coach Larry Reynolds. "We were playing a lot of freshman and got into some foul trouble. There's two ways to look at playing someone good in your exhibition opener. We could play somebody good or, we could play somebody that we are going to run all over, then go down to SDSU next week and get a wake-up call." San Bernardino's Jonathan Levy and Curtis Williams led the team with 25 points a piece, with Williams shooting 5-of-8 from the three-point line. "I'd like to see a little more scoring in the paint," said CSUSB Head Coach Jeff Oliver. "We've got a lot of new guys and we need to get confidence in them." The Coyotes continued to dominate The Beach in the second half, going on a 15-2 run to lead 78-52 with nine minutes remaining in the game. Cal State San Bernardino went into the halftime break up 50-36. The Coyotes went 7 for 15 from three-point range picking up 21 of their 50 first half points from behind the arc. CSUSB went on an 18-3 over the final six minutes of the first half to take a 50-36 lead. Long Beach committed 10 turnovers compared to San Bernardino's six. Junior Chris Jenkins went down early in the first half with an ankle injury and did not return to the game. His status is listed as day to day. The men's basketball team will next be in action Sunday, November 16, at 1:00 pm to take on the Olympic Club in their final exhibition game. |
