Fan Fest A Hit At The Pyramid
Both Women's & Men's Team Scrimmage
November 1, 2003 LONG BEACH, CA-- Both the 49er men's and women's teams staged intra-squad scrimmages on Saturday afternoon at The Pyramid at the annual Fan Fest celebration. On the men's side, the returning Black team came away with a 40-31 win over the White squad in a 30-minute running-time affair. The women played a 20-minute scrimmage with the White team winning, 30-14.
In the men's scrimmage, senior Kevin Roberts tallied nine points and grabbed six rebounds for the winning Black team, while walk-on freshman Kevin Crockett, from Wilson High School in Long Beach, added 10 points. Senior Marcel Jackson chipped in with nine points and four rebounds. The White team was led by junior Anthony Coleman, who had a game-high 14 points, including two three-pointers. Sophomore Louis Darby added 11 points, also knocking down two three's.
On the women's side, senior Jennifer Baker finished with 14 total points and Jayme Connors finished with eight.
The 49er women will open exhibition play on Saturday, November 8 vs. the Play Mode All-Stars at 7:30 pm in The Pyramid, while the men will play their first exhibition game on Wednesday, November 12 against Cal State San Bernardino at 7:30 pm in The Pyramid.
