Wiegand Named BWC Player of the Week

Wiegand Earns Top Weekly Honor IRVINE, CA-- Long Beach State's Allison Wiegand (Modesto) was named the Big West Conference's Player of the Week after tallying two goals and an assist in leading the 49ers into first place in the conference standings with two weeks left in the regular season. Wiegand had a goal and an assist in the team's 3-0 win over Utah State on October 17, before igniting a three-goal half on Sunday against Idaho. Wiegand scored the 49ers' first goal with a minute and a half into the team's 3-1 win over the Vandals on October 19. Wiegand has been on a hot streak over the past three contests, all wins, tallying four goals and an assist, moving up to second place all-time in 49er history in goals (13), points (32) and assists (6). She has a team-best six goals and 15 points this season. This is the first weekly award for LBSU this season and the first for Wiegand in her three-year career. The 49ers, at 8-7-0 overall and 4-2-0 in the Big West, sit a point ahead of Cal Poly with 12 conference points. LBSU has won eight of 11 since starting the season 0-4-0. The Beach play its final three regular season matches on the road, beginning at UC Irvine next Sunday. |
