Niners Move Into First Place

49ers Take Over First Place IRVINE, CA-- Long Beach State Head Coach Peter Reynaud got a belated birthday present on Sunday-- first place in the Big West Conference. Reynaud, who celebrated a birthday earlier this week, saw his women's soccer team (8-7-0) take over first place with two weeks left in the regular season. The 49ers moved a top the Big West standings after posting its third straight victory, a 3-1 triumph over Idaho on Sunday afternoon. With 12 points, LBSU (4-2-0) is one point ahead of Cal Poly (3-0-2), which tied pre-season favorite UC Santa Barbara (1-2-2) 2-2 in double overtime on Sunday night. Utah State (3-1-1) and Pacific (3-2-1) are tied for third place with 10 points, followed by UC Riverside (3-2-0) and UC Irvine (2-1-3) with nine points a piece. The top four teams move onto the Big West Tournament in Fullerton in mid-November. CS Fullerton (2-2-1) is seventh followed by UCSB, CS Northridge (1-5-0) and Idaho (0-4-0). The 49ers play its final three regular season matches on the road, beginning at UCI on Sunday at 1 p.m. BIG WEST STANDINGS
