49ers Sweep Weekend with 3-1 Win LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State (8-7-0, 4-2-0 Big West) tied a single-game record with 27 shots en route to a 3-1 win over visiting Idaho (2-8-4, 0-4-0 Big West), moving the 49ers into first place a top the Big West standings. It was the 49ers' third win in a row and eighth over the last 11. The eight wins is the second-most in school-history, one away from the 1998 team which went 9-11-0. The four wins in conference matches a school-record. Allison Wiegand (Modesto) scored her second goal of the weekend a minute and a half in as the 49ers built a 3-0 lead over the first 45 minutes. Wiegand took a cross from Shaina O'Donnell (Victorville) to make it 1-0 at 1:34. Wiegand became just the fourth player in school-history to tallying six goals on the season. The cross worked again at 19:47 as Kristin Travis' (Davis) first point of the season, crossed to Erin Empting (Fountain Valley) to make it 2-0. Defender Lauren Doffing (San Diego) scored her second goal of the weekend, and only her fourth in her four-year career, tapping in Nicole Cross' (Cathedral City) corner kick to make it 3-0 at 41:14. The 49er defense, led by Doffing, went to work again, allowing just eight Idaho shots, the 11th time this season LBSU had allowed 12 or fewer shots in a contest. Idaho's lone scored came at 43:30 as Amanda Findlay sent a looper into the penalty box which Jennifer Springer headed in to make it 3-0. Idaho had a chance to close the deficit to 2-1 in the 39th minute but Maureen Cindrich missed a wide open net by shooting it wide right. Idaho lost the services of Jamie Lewis, who left the game in the 17th minute with a knee injury. With UC Riverside losing 3-0 to Pacific and Utah State and UC Irvine tying, LBSU has 12 conference points, a point ahead of Cal Poly (3-0-2), which tied UC Santa Barbara 2-2 in double overtime on Sunday evening. The 27 shots by The Beach tied the record set on November 3, 2002 against CS Northridge. LBSU finished the home schedule at 6-3-0, also a school-record for most home wins in a season. The 49ers play its final three regular season matches on the road, beginning at UC Irvine next Sunday at 1 p.m.
